There were a couple of nice saddle views, including down to a bit of the river and across to Sheep Mountain, before starting steeply up the north side of Palisade Mountain. I looked it up and was reminded that the Alexander Mountain fire burned this area -- parts of it very badly, sterilizing the soil -- last July/August.
