Thanks to Rob Pickett's invitation, I joined him and Greg Morrison for a fast, hard winter hike in Rocky Mountain NP. We were out just over 5 hours, about 7 miles, 1200' of gain, using Yaktrax (traction devices) but no skis or snowshoes. We went downhill from Bear Lake to Glacier Gorge Junction hoping to make a loop back via Emerald Lake, but the Haiyaha connecting trail was just too post-holey, so we visited Loch Vale instead. It was about 32 deg out, breezy at times, but hurricane-force up at the lake.
