I could (barely) stand the boulder up on end, but not lift it. The white crud on the "back" side is calcium/caliche binding bits of gravel to the rock. Probably it sat in one place in detritus and this cementing occurred. The visible part was "clean" probably due to wind scouring (before the lake was even created).
