Thursday afternoon after two nights at the cabin we departed south to Fairplay again while Robert was still working. Long story short, after buying extra drinking water there and having a nice lunch, he "dragged us back" north to the cabin (when I'd hoped to continue around Alma and Breckenridge), and then yelled at us, etc, before demanding immediate second half payment and leaving.

We got out of there soon ourselves, checked out the Timberline campground beyond Kenosha Pass for the first time, but went a little further -- and over 5 mi up a rough county road that I'd forgotten how bad it was -- to spend a very nice long night at an incredibly beautiful remote Halls Creek campground.

To my surprise the north fork of the South Platte River near our campsite was running quite orange, like there had been a mine blowout. I notified Denver Water the next day in case they cared. It does look like someone dropped logs here for a makeshift dam to settle sediment.
