Before I left on the long drive toward home that evening, Jenny and I took a leisurely and memorable hike on a paved trail around the tower (counter-clockwise) on a remarkably beautiful though crowded morning. First we jumped into the van for a long drive to the end of the road, and were lucky to find a decent parking place in an overflow lot not too far from the visitor center and trailhead.

It was so amazing that I took (and kept) too many photos!
