That evening before it rained heavily for 2 hours, I found a decent boondock campsite, along with a few other people, in an open meadow uphill 1.3 mi west of Alma. I learned later that the city (not USFS) owned the parcel, was OK with people camping there, and had plans to turn it into a real campground. I saw the storm barreling toward us down the Buckskin Valley below Kite Lake.
