After driving away from the depot area and splitting up, the next several hours were busy with both parties driving around looking for a good place to watch the eclipse... Somewhere legal and not blocked off (like very many parking lots), with great views and not huge crowds... Preferably free, not $25 like at one high school lot I where I stopped to chat. (Too many athletic light poles around for my tastes anyway.)

A quarry I found on a map wasn't so high on a hill as it appeared, nor open to the public. I was about to give up and drive north of town again to the spots I found last evening, when a sign caught my eye about parking at the municipal airport "for a donation"! Remembering my first total eclipse experience, flying into the airport at Lewiston, MT in 1979, I thought, "hell yeah!" and checked it out. I ended up near the runway!

Meanwhile the Suby's found a spot they liked many miles to the west on the shore of Lake Dardanelle! Everyone was happy. We actually never crossed paths again, as they took their time returning to their motel for another night, while I headed south soon after the eclipse ended.
