Surprise, we had water shutoff valves under our street at both ends, in what I think they call a dual-feed network. So the city was able to isolate the leak by cutting water pressure to only about 12 houses. Not knowing how long it would be off, I contacted most of them advising they might want to fill some jugs and buckets with drinking, washing, and flush water before it was turned off.
