After a good, quiet, but surprisingly chilly (for Utah in May) night's sleep in the open desert, I spent a leisurely 1.5 hours driving the remainder (last 13.4 of ~16.2 mi total) fast, but smooth, dusty, and crowded, Valley of the Gods loop for the first time. Then back on the pavement, started the very long drive north toward home, via Bluff, Blanding, Monticello, and Moab, to Grand Junction for the night.

Final evening after Moab: A gorgeous 3.0 hr, 4.9 mi round trip hike around the Fisher Towers, up the "river road" northeast of town, late in the day with perfect weather. I passed through Moab to fill up, get a few groceries and eat a quick meal in a park, and make a reservation for a cheap motel in Grand Junction -- nearly 1.5 hours beyond the hike, and I wasn't moved into the room until nearly 9:30 pm that night; grubby, hungry, and tired. But it was worth it! Even having to rush out of Moab -- through typical heavy traffic; I didn't depart the trailhead on foot until 4:40 pm.
