My metal-edged waxless skinny skis weren't really designed for this. Unfortunately it was warm enough to stick snow to the fishscales ("kick zone") under the center, but not warm enough (until later) to thaw it right back off, so most of the way up I had a lot of friction and dragged "10 pound boots" with me. This pic is after flipping them over during a break and knocking snow off the first one...
...Which never lasted long, the snow built up again quickly. You wax the leading and trailing edges of the skis, but not the center fishscales.
