This is a slab from near the base of a small (~15') but very old spruce tree that grew up at Cathie's cabin for many years in the shade of a much larger tree (60' tall). We took down the latter in Aug 2020 because it was upwind and just 42' from the cabin. I thought this would allow the smaller tree to take off but within a couple of years it just died.
