I parked as far north as the public is allowed, in an unrestricted street spot a couple blocks east of a beach access point, and walked over from there, then north, a total of 2.6 mi each way, mostly barefoot on lovely fine, firm wet sand.
Note how Caladesi isn't really an island any more, it's barely connected, at something called "Bird Key" for no obvious reason. This is where I've portaged a rental kayak twice to do a loop around the state park back to Dunedin Causeway. Hiking at least that far north was my major goal for the day.
