Finally back on the trail for the duration! Oddly, I passed through two backcountry campsites (Beaver Mill and N St Vrain), which are like 100 yards off the main trails, while hiking cross-country approaching the two trails I hit. Without coordinates, it would have been hard to do that on purpose!

At this happy junction, I met a ranger who was out checking latrines(!) and confirmed that, despite both my old paper map and Google not showing the "connector", the main trail was now direct and to the left.
