In early August we reluctantly decided to take down a 60' tall spruce tree that was 42' away from the cabin upwind, after two failed attempts to top it off higher using two different extension ladders. Afterward I counted 102 rings, about 20" across, not even a record for the cabin -- this tree grew faster in a wetter location near the fire pit (unused house foundation hole).
Note how the rings expanded around 1984, consistent with when Michigan Hill was subdivided (1980) and the previous owners of the lot might have dug the foundation hole.
