Paul Beiser organized (thanks) a hike at Red Mountain Open Space, north of Fort Collins on the Wyoming border (west of Soapstone). It was my first time up there, mainly because while it's "only" 35 miles from home, it takes about an hour of winding driving to reach. I learned today that the last 10 miles or so are (fairly smooth) dirt and gravel.
I also learned today how spectacularly beautiful this place is, moreso even than Soapstone, at least on a partly cloudy, cool, breezy spring day.
The group of 4 vehicles and 7 people met on the north end of town at 9 am, and we did not carpool (SARS-CoV-2 spacing). We hiked about 6.8 miles in 3:20 starting at 10:02 (context for photo timestamps), clockwise on the Bent Rock loop and then counter-clockwise on the K Lynn Cameron loop.
