The bandanna was to pull up over my nose when passing someone (in either direction) while biking, both for a bit of added mutual protection, and as a form of "virtue signaling" to make them more comfortable. Going into a store, though, we always used cloth masks, and by late November when a bigger surge started, and we scored a dozen, then N95 masks.
