Finally nearing 6 pm, I got tired of waiting around and didn't want to spend another night at the ranch. We drove the van out to the frontage road (Wyo 319), crossed it straight ahead to a primitive, rough day-use area by the lake (crowded with other people hanging out), and sat looking north, watching the traffic (mostly not moving) while having dinner.

Here I noticed a pattern; first I-25 would move well for 5-10 minutes, then the frontage road. Obviously someone miles south of us in Glendo was alternating people onto or through on I-25 so no one would be stuck indefinitely.

So after dinner at nearly 7 pm, we got in line on the frontage road and spent a long time (an hour?) inching south for just a couple of miles. We turned off at Elkhorn Creek, the northernmost campground at Glendo State Park; and while it was crowded, to our amazement there was a free campsite -- which we took -- and shared for part of the night with a couple in a sedan who had not come prepared to camp out!

This was the telephoto view north to I-25 southbound during twilight after we made camp, around 8:24 pm.
