I also set up a small mirror covered with a sheet of paper prepared with a small circular hole. Mounted on modeling clay on a rock, it was tricky but worked well to aim the resulting image at another white paperboard that I set up on the backside of my daypack. Note the moon encroaching on the sun about 30 minutes before totality.
