The asphalt trail up and around the crater of Capulin Volcano, New Mexico, is spectacular!

October 1, 2013: A day that will live in infamy because the GOP forced the shutdown of the federal government. We were about 30 miles away heading for Capulin that morning when we heard the news on the radio, called ahead, and sure enough the national monument gate was locked. It took us over 2.5 years to return for another visit. But it was an excellent day!

I don't have pictures, but the spiral drive hundreds of feet up and nearly completely around the cone, without guardrails, was amazing too!
