Despite a mild snowstorm, I joined Mark Hammer for a winter hike up the hill in the Big Thompson Canyon, west of Loveland. We started at the Sullivan Gulch trailhead a few miles west of Drake, and hiked north up an icy, snowy, primitive trail. It was quiet, peaceful, and surprisingly pretty since it wasn't that cold or snowy. We went from about 6480' to 7960' (west on the ridge toward Crosier Mountain), or around 1500' total, in 3:20 round trip.
