From here you can see clearly how the shape of the Waterpocket Fold continues on the far side of the Colorado River. Apparently the river was forced to cut down through the layers as the Fold lifted. The Slope mostly consists of the top of the Kayenta sandstone. The Aleson Arch is just left of the tree, high in residual Navajo sandstone still perched on the Kayenta.
