Three days after returning from a long Lake Powell trip with a large crew, I seized the moment (and some good weather) to join Mark Hammer on a trip to Aspen to hike in the Elk Range. We left Loveland at about 3 pm Thursday, camped at "Difficult" site #30 (five miles east of Aspen), climbed on the Maroon Bells from Maroon Lake (9580') on Friday, and along with two others who showed up at about 10:30 pm Friday evening, climbed Pyramid Peak on Saturday.
Then after a nice dinner at the Hickory House restaurant, we drove all the way back home (groan). I fell into bed about 2:15 am.
