This year my weeks were scheduled in August and October, but I was unemployed (from Avago, starting in June). So I bought an unused July 12-19 week from the Beckers and ran a small (3-person), short (6-night) trip. It was just me, Cathie, and long-time friend Jenny Pruett. We picked up the boat at Hobie Cat Bay (Bullfrog) mid-Sunday 7/12 from the Randels, and handed it off at 3:30 pm Saturday afternoon 7/18 to Scott Mastriona.

We had a fine time, going downstream as far as Alice J Arch (near Annies), and upstream to Forgotten Canyon. I thought we would stick even closer to the marinas, move less, and drive fewer hours, but with the new 115 HP motors and nothing in tow, we could cruise 9 MPH, and it was fun to keep exploring.

Due to unusually extreme heat, most days we looked for and found evening shade, despite the lake being unusually busy. We kept our hikes shorter than typical, and did a lot of swimming and kayaking. The forecast was for 100-103 highs most days, and it never rained all week. On Saturday driving out of Bullfrog at 4 pm, my car reported 108 degrees outside, and it stayed over 100 until nearing Grand Junction.
