On a random Thursday, I joined a small (6 people total), free, city-sponsored geology hike of some newly-constructed trails in the recently-opened Soapstone Prairie Natural Area. Our trailhead was near the famous Lindenmeier archaeological site, just over 30 miles nearly due north of home near the Wyoming border. I'd been up there twice before on city bus tours (before the Prairie opened daily this year), but this was my first time really hiking there. We covered about five miles from 9:15 to 1 pm, winding around ridges and along tops at about 6900' elevation. It was cool, breezy, and rich with wildflowers.
