Wanting to do some exploring by kayak, on a Monday I headed for Guernsey Reservoir, Wyoming, a couple of hours from home. But first I checked out the Fort Laramie National Historic Site I'd just read about in the newspaper. I took the back road from Wheatland, spent an hour and a half fascinated by the historical area, then camped at Sandy Beach inside the Guernsey state park after driving up to The Castle picnic site for sunset.

Tuesday morning I launched in my kayak at 8:00 am, and was out on the lake for over nine hours, until 5:20 pm! I circled the main bays clockwise, first to the river inlet, down around the north peninsula, up past Long Canyon to the cliff below The Castle, and back. It was a hot, mostly clear and calm day, buggy in the shadows, with water warm enough for swimming, and very little boat traffic until the narrows near The Castle.
