Late on a lovely, dry, breezy spring day, I took my healing left foot on my first serious hike -- since breaking a bone Dec 30 and having it surgically repaired Jan 8. This solo outing over the ridge of Green Mountain, west of Denver, went pretty well although I limped a little for the last couple of miles. It included challenging myself with a steep downhill section on deer trails, with bushwhacking.
I started from the Hayden trailhead on the southeast side of the mountain, across Alameda Avenue from Utah Street. I pushed hard for 40 minutes non-stop up the trail to the radio towers, then continued west over and down a ridgeline to a west-side trail. From here, I looped a long way, a couple of miles, around the south end of the mountain.
I was out 2.5 hours from 5:00 to 7:30. Sunset was at 7:09, and pretty. I had a headlamp but was back to my car before needing it.
